Watching global temperatures rise at alarming rates,  I am disheartened by our future prospects as we celebrate this Earth Day 2020.   I agonize over why I am unable to do more to battle climate change.  I wish I were a powerful person and a great leader but even if we had a great leader, the change needed could not be done alone.  I wish I were a financial wiz and could donate large sums of money to help the earth and then I see how huge donors can’t do it alone.  I wish I had the legal expertise to enact and enforce environmental laws and then I see how many battles must be won to make a difference.  I wish I were a scientist to invent a cure all, and then I see how science is often underfunded and advice goes unheeded.  I wish I were a stronger person with more energy left in me to work for a solution but the prospect of what needs to be done only weakens me.  We can only do what we as individuals are capable of doing and gain strength by working together in unity of purpose.

I am best suited to use art to show us what we are fighting for.  The beauty of nature has offered humanity solace in times of distress, food in times of hunger, and has uplifted the human spirit to joyous celebration and inspired us to reach our potential.  Through artistic invention and photography, I hope to help inspire us to fight, each in our own way, and as a unified force to repair our earth for generations to come.

These series of photos are of one oak tree in California that was a mere acorn when the first earth day was celebrated in 1970. Nature has produced in 50 years this testament to strength and beauty.   I hope that 50 years from now the seeds of change that humanity sows in 2020 will be as majestic as this Coast Live Oak is today.  Let us celebrate the 50^th anniversary of Earth Day and Carry the EARTH together!!!
